Where a scan goes

Paper goes in and a document comes out. The only paths off the device are the ones you start yourself: a share, an export, the iCloud sync you switched on, or the device backup you keep. There is no server in this circuit, which is why the App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected. There is nothing to collect.

Every stage runs on the device. Text recognition uses Apple's frameworks. Naming uses a small model that also runs on the device; with premium, an iPhone or iPad fetches it on its own from Hugging Face (a Mac only when you ask in Settings), and deleting it in Settings stops that. The privacy policy has the details.

What it does

Scans anything
Edges found, page straightened, shadows and uneven light flattened, and a warning when a page looks blurry so you retake it before you walk away. Multiple pages into one document, open books split into facing pages, whiteboards without glare, ID cards and passports composed onto a single page, photos and PDFs imported. Folders and color labels keep it all in order.
Finds any document
Every scan is read on the device, even offline, so search works for everyone: type a word from a receipt or a contract and the scan it lives in comes up. Premium adds the extracted text itself, to read, copy and export (and translate, on iPhone and iPad), plus smart naming: a small model that runs on the device titles each scan for you, so receipts stop being called Scan 47.
Exports any way you work
PDF, JPG, PNG, Word, Excel, TXT and RTF, with file size presets, your own watermark and password protected PDFs. Word and Excel files are created entirely on your device. Excel export needs iOS 26 or macOS 26.
Signs and edits
Draw a signature once and place it on any page. Reorder, split and combine documents. Rescue bad lighting with the enhance, black and white, grayscale and whiteboard filters.
Locks down
Turn on the app lock and PrivateScan asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode when it opens (the device needs a passcode set; reopening within a few seconds of unlocking does not ask again). On iPhone and iPad, files stay encrypted while the device is locked; on a Mac, turn on FileVault in System Settings to protect the files at rest. A privacy shield hides your documents in the app switcher.
Syncs through your iCloud, if you want
Sync is off by default. Turn it on and your documents move through your own private iCloud, protected by your Apple Account. Freedom Terminal runs no servers and could not read them if it wanted to.
